Funding Body:

Project Status:
Completed

The project aimed to review the status of the water quality monitoring programme in Shanghai Metropolitan Area, including the Huangpu River and its tributaries and the Changjiang River Estuary. The project assessed the scope for developing a biological monitoring programme involving riparian communities in urban and surrounding rural areas in the Shanghai region. The project included an assessment of the scope for developing a community/participatory monitoring programme that would focus on biological indicators as well as the organisation of a workshop with specialists in water quality and freshwater ecology. The biological monitoring programme, which focused on establishing bio-indicators, could then be adopted for assessing outcomes and biological impacts of the Shanghai APL Urban Environment Project.
